Creating User Groups

  • #1

    Hello -

I created a User Group with the permissions of Member for people not in the guild that I would very much like to participate in our forums. I was able to add the characters to the User Group though they were on different servers and in a different faction than the guild. I went in to the private forums and changed the permissions in those forums to add the specific user group I created. However, those I added still can only see the public forums and cannot access the private forums.

One of the people has an inactive WoW account but a Wowstead account. I see reference in other posts that the person has to "claim" their character. Is claiming different than verifying? Is it possible to have someone a special guest with an inactive WoW account via the User Groups participate in private forum stuff?

My guild is different than other guilds in that it is for writers. I would like to be able to invite people or characters outside the actual guild or with characters on other servers/factions to participate in in the forums etc. without making the forums public. Is that possible?

My guild site is writersguildofazeroth.wowstead.com. It is a premium account. (I have not been able to get the link to work so if you need to go to it, it is copy and paste time.) The guild is Writers Guild of Azeroth on Wyrmrest Accord.

I also would like to know if it is possible to change the default font size on guild website? The default is much too small.

    Thank you for your time.

You will need to add the permissions for the user group on the specific forums that you want them to have access to, but also to the forum above them (ex. Forum1, SubForum1, Subforum2 - if you want someone to have access to SubForum1, they will need to have access to Forum1).

For the person who has an inactive account, you can try to add their username to the custom group.

Since you have a premium account, you can change the font size using the custom CSS.

add the http://www in the front.  http://www.writersguildofazeroth.wowstead.com.  Other wise it will auto add the location of the page it is posted on.  For example here it was making it http://www.wowstead.com/forums/support/site-administration/control-panel/writersguildofazeroth.wowstead.com .

As Z has said, you will need to make sure the top level category and the subs are all given the permissions they should.  However, the user will need to have a character, and have it verified (either ownership verification - not in your guild or Guild verification - in your guild) in order to gain any access ability to the site's forums that are rank restricted, as you can not verify ownership of just an account.

Sorry Shankill - didn't see your post before I posted this. I will try verifying and see if that changes things. I will have to figure out something for the person with the inactive account.)

Thank you for your very swift reply.

I checked and I had added all the permission to the forums, from the main forum Writers Guild of Azeroth Private Forum to all its subforums. However, the forums are not showing up when I click on the Forums tab in the navigation list (one of the user group characters is a test character of mine). Should that be immediate when I set it?

There was no problem with adding the characters I wanted to add to the User Group. Both are showing up in the user group members, even the one with an inactive WoW account.

If the characters aren't "claimed", would they even show up as members of the group? Is claimed he same as verfiying?

You didn't say this can't be done, so i am hopeful it will work once I/we figure out what thingy hasn't been checked off or whatever. Thank you.

Yes, the lack of verification is the reason. I verifies my test character and the forums showed up. Since the other person does not currently have an active WoW account, he will not be able to verify though his has been a long time user. Is there any other way to verify? Your characters remain yours even if the account is inactive.

You can try granting the account names permission for the forums, but I am not entirely sure the restrictions for accounts over characters.  I know at our level with accounts we can, but not entirely sure how much is tied into the admin aspect of the accounts.  You can give it a shot.  Not much to loose except a few moments of your time.  You may runinto the issue of not being able to pull their account up in the search list if there are several character's with the name.  So will will need something unlike character names for their account name.

You could guild verify them, but only if they are on your guild's roster.  Otherwise no there isn't.
