I logged in and added a character so I could participate on my guild's website. I saw that I needed to verify my character, and read what it says on the character verification page:
"In order to verify the ownership of this character, you will need to enter the game and unequip one or more items as marked on this page. After removing the items, please log out of the game and click the Complete button on this page."
I did all of that and then clicked on the "Complete" button. Got an error, saying I only had 4 tries left.
I went back to the verification page and it showed a second item for removal. I removed that as well, and tried again. Error - 3 tries left.
Found the link in the forums and made sure my toons battle.net Armory had been updated. This time a third item was added to the list of items to remove, but I did not remove it, and I tried again. Error - 2 tries left.
Checked my WowStead profile and saw that it had NOT been updated. Logged in to my character and removed the third item, and then waited for it to show a recent sync (as in one AFTER I checked and made sure the battle.net Armory reflected the right gear in the previous step. I refreshed the WowStead profile and it still did not show the gear change, but since it said that it had just synced, I tried again. Error - 1 try left.
So I figured I would give it even MORE time to update. I had just gotten off a night shift, so I went to bed.
Now, I go back and see if I can verify.
WowStead profile shows last sync as 11 hours ago, and it shows that the first 2 items were removed, but to verify my character, only the third item is now highlighted saying to remove it. It's been removed since this morning, but still does not show.
So here are my questions:
1) When I wait for the eventual update that may happen in the distant future, am I going to come back and find that I have to remove yet ANOTHER item once the last item finally shows removed and wait for another 11+ hours before my toon gets synced?
2) If I use my last attempt and get ANOTHER error, is that it for me as far as getting this toon verified or is that a 5 tries per day thing?
There is a guide on the best way to verify your character in our FAQ. You should not do another verification attempt until all your profiles display the same. Otherwise you can throw it off. Since the character information has to be updated through several areas. From in-game > Armory > API > WowStead. This updating process can take anywhere from a few minutes to 10-20 minutes depending on the load and your location in line for the update. Though verification character do get priority in line they may not always get front of the line. Thus a wait may be in order.
Check your Armory prior to an attempt to make sure the API gets cached with the new information as well. Otherwise the API may have old information such as an item no longer equipped that it will send us.
The limit of tries is only for a set period of time. You can only have X amount in a Y time span. You will get more tries later. This is similar to guessing wrong passwords and being blocked from trying again to help protect your account from fruadelant attempts to access it.
If you continue to have issues verifying your character or have used up all the attempts your guild site's admin can guild verify you in the mean time. This will give you the access to your character's permissions.
First, if there is another admin on your site, you can have them Guild Verify your character. If not, you will need to complete the verification process.
You can find specific information about verifying your character in the FAQs. The video is very helpful.
The most important aspects:
remove only the item(s) highlighted
log out of WoW
refresh the WoW armory page until the item is shown as removed - this can take up to 20 minutes or so
then refresh the WowStead character page until the item is shown as removed
THEN click the complete button
If you do get locked out it will be for a certain amount of time (I am not sure the exact amount, though - I will check on that).

1) My guild doesn't seem all that active on their website. That was something I was going to try to improve by registering, so I am not sure how well the guild verify will work for my case.
2) You say "This updating process can take anywhere from a few minutes to 10-20 minutes depending on the load and your location in line for the update." It's now past the 12 HOUR point for this toon. How long can the line be??? Battle net's Armory has been updated properly since this morning.
3) I am glad that using my last try won't lock me out forever. Good to know.

I did all of that. I read the FAQ and watched the video. All of that doesn't help get my toon verified when this site doesn't sych with the Armory for over 12 HOURS.
Great. I refreshed the page and finally had a "Sync now" button next to the "Verify Ownership" button. Clicked it and finally got it synced. I did not remember seeing that button before.
I was happy, so I went back to the Character Verification page and clicked "Complete", but I got an error. Apparently the page had timed out from waiting for so long. So I refreshed the page, and now a FOURTH item is showing that it needs to be removed (all three previous items are removed, but they are no longer highlighted). At this rate, my character will be naked before she gets verified.
It appears that your guild's roster is not importing characters that have names starting with special characters. I have pointed this out to Shankill to look into.

And now that ßlackrose has synced again (still waiting on this toon to re-sync), a FIFTH item now needs to be removed to verify. I am just going to give up on verifying her for now.
I've left it open on the verify page in one tab ever since I hit the button to verify it.
I have been refreshing the profile in a second tab (for over 4 hours now).
And I've been watching this thread in a third tab.
I am using Firefox (13.0.1), which I believe is the "recommended" browser, according to the FAQ.
I noticed that profiles with old syncs (such as the one for your Airmeith toon) have the "Sync now" button available on them, and from my personal experience, it apparently becomes available after the 12 hour point. Why is that button not available to use during the verification process?

:) maybe you can log into game and see if an officer or the gm are online and can just quickly do that for you.

Are you leaving your browser open or closing it between starting the process and "completing it"? Also what browser are you using?
